Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Cape Pays Homage to Superman’s Legacy

Milly Alcock is set to take flight as Kara Zor-El in the upcoming Supergirl movie, and her cape has a nostalgic connection to the superhero’s cinematic roots. During a chat on the Raiders of the Lost Podcast, Alcock shared that part of her cape is made from the same material that adorned Christopher Reeve’s iconic Superman costume.

When asked about her favorite costume elements, Alcock revealed this heartfelt nod to history: “My cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape.” She elaborated that there was a discovery of about 16 meters of this special fabric, which now adds an extra layer of significance to her red cape.

Reeve’s portrayal of Superman in the late ’70s and ’80s set the standard for the character, and even though many have donned the cape since then, his version remains a classic for fans. Following his untimely passing in 2004, Reeve’s legacy continues to influence new adaptations of the hero, from Brandon Routh to Henry Cavill and David Corenswet.

As Supergirl gears up to hit the big screens soon, it looks like Alcock’s cape will be a subtle yet powerful reminder of Superman’s enduring impact. While casual viewers might not catch this detail, it’s just one of the many ways the new DC Universe is paying tribute to its rich history.

In addition to Alcock’s cape, the upcoming 2025 Superman film promises to keep the nostalgia alive with a soundtrack inspired by John Williams’ original theme and a cameo by Reeve’s son, Will Reeve, who will make an appearance as a reporter.

Supergirl is scheduled to soar into theaters on June 26, 2026, and fans are eager to see how Alcock and the DC Studios crew honor Superman’s legacy. In the meantime, there’s plenty of buzz around superhero fatigue and other exciting projects from the DC universe, keeping us all on the edge of our seats!
