By the end of this month, the studio will have launched a whopping 13 games over 26 years, with their latest title, 007 First Light, showcasing their range. However, Hitman still accounts for more than half of their released titles!
Recently, there was a bit of chatter about whether IO Interactive’s new love affair with James Bond might overshadow our beloved Hitman. But don’t worry! The team has reassured fans that Hitman remains a pivotal part of their future plans. Although it’s been five years since the last installment, this absence isn’t due to neglect; rather, they’ve been busy crafting two brand new games from scratch.
In a recent chat with The Game Business, IOI CEO Hakan Abrak expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the Hitman franchise. He highlighted that while the team has been focused on 007 First Light, which is quite different from Hitman, they are eager to get back into the nitty-gritty of our favorite stealth game.
Abrak mentioned that they’ve been laying down the groundwork for their upcoming projects, including a fantasy game that’s, believe it or not, “very, very far” along. This is quite a departure from their typical style, but it’s all part of their strategy to innovate and improve.
As he said, “We are looking forward to getting into the weeds on Hitman again.” With no new Hitman game hitting the shelves just yet, fans can rest assured that the team is committed to enhancing every aspect of the series. The experience gained from working on 007 First Light may even allow them to take some bolder steps in refining the Hitman formula, particularly in areas like combat, which, while not central to the game, could definitely use some extra polish.
