Netflix to Bring Persona to Life with Upcoming Live-Action Series

Big news for gaming fans: Netflix is getting ready to adapt the beloved Persona RPG series into a live-action show! This buzz comes straight from reports that the streaming giant has initiated work on the project, which is sure to excite fans of the franchise.

The series will be written by Christopher Monfette, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard and 9-1-1. He’s not only penning the script but also stepping in as showrunner and executive producer. Alongside him, Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood from 21 Laps will be executive producing, along with a talented team from Story Kitchen, including Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson. Sega’s own Toru Nakahara will also lend a hand in the production.

While the exact storyline remains a mystery, there’s plenty of material to draw from, given the franchise’s long history since its debut in 1996. With five mainline games, numerous spin-offs, and remakes, fans have a lot to speculate about. The latest addition, Persona 5, introduced us to the Phantom Thieves in 2016 and was expanded with Persona 5 Royal in 2024, which adds even more possibilities for the series.

Although details about casting and a release date are still under wraps, fans are already buzzing online with theories about characters and storylines that could make their way into the show. This project is still in the early stages, so updates may take a while to roll in.

Netflix has previously partnered with 21 Laps on the hit series Stranger Things, proving they know how to handle successful adaptations. They also have a range of other projects in the pipeline, including adaptations of various video games, showcasing their commitment to expanding their content library with beloved franchises.

As we eagerly await more news on the Persona series, fans can also catch up on the latest in the Persona universe, including Persona 4 Revival and the much-anticipated Persona 6, which was recently announced at the Xbox Games Showcase.
