Resident Evil: Veronica – A Fresh Take on a Classic

Capcom has finally dropped some exciting news at this year’s Summer Game Fest Live: they’ve announced the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, now simply titled Resident Evil: Veronica. This one’s a throwback to the Dreamcast era, originally hitting the scene back in 2000. It’s the last of the iconic Resident Evil titles to get a modern makeover, and fans can hardly contain their excitement!

What sets Resident Evil: Veronica apart from its predecessors? Well, the teaser trailer suggests that Capcom is taking a bolder approach this time around. Instead of just updating controls and camera angles, they seem to be infusing new perspectives and even altering the game’s tone. If you were expecting just another nostalgia trip, think again!

Right from the get-go, the trailer showcases a shift from the traditional view to a first-person perspective. While past remakes stuck mostly to third-person, recent entries like Resident Evil: Requiem have allowed players to choose between styles. It looks like Capcom might be sticking to this dual-perspective trend for future titles, which is fantastic for the player experience.

Fans will also be excited to see familiar locations from the original game, like Rockfort Prison, where the fiery Claire Redfield faces bio-horrors. With today’s advanced level design capabilities, Capcom has an awesome opportunity to create a setting that rivals the iconic Raccoon City Police Department from the Resident Evil 2 remake.

One of the most intriguing changes is the dropping of the “Code” from the title. By simply calling it Resident Evil: Veronica, Capcom is positioning this project as a “reimagining” rather than a straightforward remake. The original game has often been considered a bit of an oddity in the series, known for its underwhelming plot, lackluster characters, and some downright silly villains.

With this fresh take, Capcom has the chance to rectify the past. A compelling narrative focusing on Claire and Chris Redfield’s pursuit of the Umbrella Corporation in the wake of Raccoon City’s destruction sounds like a thrilling adventure waiting to unfold. We’ll have to wait until 2027 to see what this new version truly has in store for us!
