Rockstar Says GTA 6 Is ‘A Pyramid on Everest’ as It Promises No Compromises
Rockstar Games says Grand Theft Auto VI had to go further than anything fans already expect. In an interview with Edge Magazine, Rockstar’s Aaron Garbut explained that the team deliberately avoided the safe option.
“We can’t just trot out something that’s what people might expect, or that was the easy thing to do,” Garbut said. “We’ve not compromised on the scale, the detail, the interactivity, the story, the open-world.”
“A pyramid on Everest”
Garbut summed up the ambition with one line that is already doing the rounds online: “I feel like we’ve built a pyramid on Everest.” In other words, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are the mountain, and GTA 6 is meant to be built on top of them.
600,000 animations
According to the post sharing the interview, the game reportedly features around 600,000 unique animations. Rockstar’s open worlds are known for small details, like characters reacting to the weather or to what the player is doing, and a number that large suggests the studio is pushing that even further.
Why it matters
- Expectations are sky-high: GTA 6 is the most anticipated game in years, and Rockstar is openly saying it is aiming above even that.
- It explains the long wait: a world with this much detail takes time, which helps explain why the game has taken so long to arrive.
- Hardware: GTA 6 is coming to current-generation consoles first. PC players will have to wait, as usual for Rockstar.
