Shadowheart’s Voice Actor, Jennifer English, Steps Back from Tides of Annihilation Role

Big news for fans of epic RPGs and their talented cast! Jennifer English, the incredible voice actor who brought to life characters like Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Latenna in Elden Ring, has announced she’s stepping away from her lead role in the upcoming fantasy RPG, Tides of Annihilation.

The developers, Eclipse Glow Games (backed by Tencent), shared the news, stating that Jennifer is leaving her role as the English voice of Gwendolyn, the main protagonist, due to personal health reasons. It’s a tough decision, but one that highlights the importance of prioritizing well-being, even for our favourite gaming stars.

Jennifer herself shed some light on her decision, explaining that she’s “found myself needing to slow down and reassess the commitments I’ve taken on.” She added, “After careful thought, I’ve realised I need to take time to rest and properly look after my mental and physical health.” It’s a sentiment many of us can relate to, especially in today’s fast-paced world.

While we’ll miss her in the starring role, Jennifer isn’t completely cutting ties with the project. She’ll continue to support Tides of Annihilation in an advisory capacity. In a testament to her dedication, she even helped the studio find her replacement, working alongside other voice cast members to identify a talented performer who can carry Gwendolyn’s character forward.

The identity of the new voice actor is still under wraps, but gamers won’t have to wait too long to find out. Eclipse Glow Games confirmed that players will hear the new performance for the first time in the demo at Gamescom 2026, which is expected to be released to the public this August. Keep an eye out for official updates around that time!

Tides of Annihilation is an ambitious fantasy RPG planned for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. It’s set in a shattered, twisted version of London, promising a unique and immersive experience. Although a release window hasn’t been announced yet, this news certainly keeps the game on our radar. We wish Jennifer English all the best as she takes this much-needed break and look forward to hearing the new voice of Gwendolyn in action!
