Shifting Gears: Assassin’s Creed Hexe Loses Another Key Director

Big news coming from the world of Assassin’s Creed! The development of the enigmatic project known as Assassin’s Creed Hexe has hit a snag, as game director Benoit Richer has decided to part ways with Ubisoft. He made the announcement via a LinkedIn post, sharing that he’s off to co-found Servo Games, an indie studio based in Quebec, where he’ll also take on the role of game director.

This isn’t the first shake-up for the Hexe project this year. Back in February, creative director Clint Hocking also exited, leaving Jean Guesdon, the head of content for Assassin’s Creed, to step in. Richer’s departure raises questions about the future direction of the game and who might take over his responsibilities at Ubisoft.

Richer has a long history with Ubisoft Montreal, joining the team way back in 2000 as a level designer for titles like Rainbow Six Vegas 2. After a brief hiatus in 2008, he returned to the fold in 2017, contributing to the development of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. His impressive resume makes his exit even more noteworthy.

As for the details surrounding Assassin’s Creed Hexe, we still don’t have much to go on. The game was first teased in 2022, along with Assassin’s Creed Infinity (now rebranded as Animus Hub) and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Franchise vice executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté has hinted that Hexe is set to be a “new flagship title” that promises a fresh take on the beloved franchise.

Currently, there’s no release date for Hexe, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates from Ubisoft. While we sit tight for more news, it might be a good time to revisit the series and brush up on how to play the games in chronological order. Stay tuned for all the latest happenings in the Assassin’s Creed universe!
