Shocking News: Star Wars Jedi Director’s D&D Game Canned by Hasbro!

Bara afsos ki khabar hai for all the Dungeons & Dragons and action-adventure game fans out there! It seems a highly anticipated D&D title, being developed by the legendary Stig Asmussen – the creative genius behind Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and God of War 3 – has been officially cancelled by Hasbro.

Yes, you read that right. The project, which was in the works at Asmussen’s studio, Giant Skull, won’t be seeing the light of day. Both Hasbro and Giant Skull have confirmed this unfortunate development. A Hasbro representative stated that while they “decided not to pursue an early concept” from Giant Skull, they hold “great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team” and value their ongoing professional relationship. A bit diplomatic, but that’s how the cookie crumbles in the big gaming world!

This news comes as a bit of a surprise, especially since the game was first announced just last June. Details were pretty scarce, but we knew it was planned as an action/adventure title set in the rich D&D universe. Both parties had even hyped it up as “a definitive moment in both companies’ gaming ambitions.” So, for it to be scrapped now, it’s definitely a head-scratcher.

On the bright side, it’s not all doom and gloom for Asmussen’s team. Giant Skull is still very much operational, and Asmussen himself reassured everyone that “things are good at Giant Skull.” He also mentioned that he thoroughly enjoyed his time collaborating with Wizards of the Coast (which is a Hasbro subsidiary responsible for D&D) and is open to working with them again or exploring opportunities with other publishers. So, hopefully, we’ll see Giant Skull bounce back with another exciting project soon!

Meanwhile, Wizards of the Coast is gearing up for the release of their long-awaited sci-fi game, Exodus, slated for 2027. That’s one to keep an eye on for sure.

For those who might not know, Stig Asmussen is a powerhouse in the action-adventure genre. He departed from Respawn Entertainment in 2023 after delivering two incredibly successful single-player Star Wars Jedi games. Before that, he made his mark at Sony Santa Monica, where he started as an artist on the original God of War trilogy and eventually rose to become the creative director for God of War 3. His move to Respawn in 2014 saw him direct the Star Wars Jedi series, crafting some of the most beloved Star Wars games since Disney took over the IP.

While a third Star Wars Jedi game is indeed in development, Stig Asmussen isn’t involved with it. Fans are speculating it might be revealed next year for a 2027 launch, but nothing’s confirmed yet. It’s clear Asmussen is always looking for new challenges, and while this D&D project didn’t pan out, we’re sure he’ll be cooking up something epic in the near future. We’ll keep you posted on whatever comes next for this industry legend!
