Slay the Spire 2 Developer Shares Exciting Roadmap, But No Release Dates Yet

Mega Crit, the brains behind the beloved card-battling roguelike, Slay the Spire 2, has just dropped a fresh roadmap outlining their future plans for the game. However, there’s a catch: they’re not handing out any release dates. Why, you ask? Well, they’re keen on avoiding a “Sloppy Spire 2” situation!

In a recent edition of their newsletter, The Neowsletter, co-founder Casey Yano shared a whopping list of 17 upcoming updates aimed at improving the game during its Early Access phase. These updates are expected to include new language support, a brand new character, various bug fixes, and even alternate versions of Acts 2 and 3.

While fans might feel a bit let down by the absence of specific timelines, Mega Crit is keeping things under wraps because they believe that premature announcements lead to disappointment. Yano emphasized that the team, which is relatively small, prefers to work at a comfortable pace without the pressure of public deadlines. “I want Slay the Spire 2, not Sloppy Spire 2,” he said, clearly prioritizing quality over speed.

The studio’s candid approach comes after facing a mix of feedback from players following a recent update that adjusted game balance. This led to a noticeable dip in user reviews on Steam, which shifted from “Mostly Positive” to “Mixed.” But don’t worry! Mega Crit is committed to refining the game based on community feedback.

Currently, the studio estimates a full 1.0 launch could happen within the next one to two years. And for those who can’t wait, the Early Access version is all about trying out new features and designs to ensure the game is headed in the right direction.

Yano also mentioned that beta patches will roll out more frequently than the main updates, offering eager players a chance to provide feedback on experimental changes. Interested in trying out new content before it goes live? Just check out the instructions to switch to the beta branch!

Additional info shared in the community note includes player statistics, a developer Q&A, and even some fan art and merchandise details. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s on the horizon for Slay the Spire 2:

  • Steam Workshop support
  • New playable character
  • Alternate versions of Acts 2 and 3
  • Gameplay balance tweaks and bug fixes
  • More cards, events, relics, and potions
  • Ports to other platforms and Steam achievements

Slay the Spire 2 made its debut in Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026, and has already garnered a solid 9/10 rating from players. With Mega Crit’s dedication to quality and community, fans are in for an exciting ride with this game! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as they roll in!
