Solarpunk Sets the Record Straight Before Launch: Know What to Expect!

As we gear up for the launch of yet another exciting survival title, Solarpunk is making waves with a unique pre-release message. With a staggering 1.2 million wishlists on Steam, the developers at Cyberwave want to ensure that players know exactly what they’re getting into before the game drops on June 8.

“Is Solarpunk the right fit for you?” the team asks in their Steam post. If you’re hoping for a sprawling survival adventure akin to popular games like Windrose or Subnautica 2, you might want to think twice. Solarpunk is a labor of love from a small two-person team, and they’re feeling the heat of those high expectations.

Cyberwave emphasizes that while the wishlist numbers might suggest a massive game created by a large studio, that’s far from reality. “Solarpunk isn’t a blockbuster production,” they clarify. Instead, it’s a cozy survival crafting sandbox that focuses on creativity and tranquility rather than intense competition and vast open worlds.

The developers have been clear about what players can look forward to: a serene gaming experience that highlights home building, farming, and decorating, with around 20 hours of primary content to explore. After that, the game transitions to nurturing your personal space and achieving personal goals rather than endless quests.

Players looking for PvP elements or a grand narrative campaign will need to look elsewhere, as the game features a set of carefully crafted islands and two biomes with no overarching story or competitive gameplay.

To help set expectations even further, Cyberwave has shared a nearly 10-minute video detailing both what Solarpunk offers and what it doesn’t. “We want to make sure no one purchases Solarpunk for the wrong reasons,” they stress. If you’re drawn to the idea of a peaceful crafting game where you can build your dream home and explore at your leisure, then you’re in the right place.

However, if you were hoping for thrilling PvP, an expansive story, or hundreds of hours of gameplay, it’s worth considering that Solarpunk might not be your cup of tea. The small studio has expressed immense gratitude for the support they’ve received, stating, “Thank you for giving this tiny project so much attention. Your wishlisting, playing the demo, and sharing feedback mean the world to us.”
