Sony Strikes Again: Marvel Tōkon’s PC Release Blocked in Over 100 Countries

It seems like Sony just can’t catch a break lately. After making waves with its sneaky PSN account requirement for Helldivers 2, which left many players in countries without PSN in the dark, the company is at it again. The latest victim? The highly anticipated fighting game, Marvel Tōkon, which has been region-locked on Steam in a staggering 132 countries. Yep, that includes Pakistan!

Remember when Sony faced a ton of backlash for restricting PC ports like God of War Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 in those same regions? It looked like they were turning things around after fixing some of the issues, but guess what? They still forgot to open the gates for Marvel Tōkon. Players were really excited about this tag fighter, especially in regions where fighting games are a big deal, but now they’re left disappointed.

Among the affected countries are notable names like Morocco, Egypt, and the Vatican City. Seriously, it’s hard to believe that players in these regions will have to stick to games like Baldur’s Gate 3 for their gaming fix. Meanwhile, Marvel Tōkon continues to generate buzz, especially with its open beta scheduled from July 24 to July 26 for those lucky enough to get access. Players can jump in and play as Blade, who is teaming up with Ghost Rider, Loki, and—wait for it—Deadpool. What a lineup, right?

However, it’s a bit puzzling that more characters from the darker corners of the Marvel Universe, like Nico Minoru, didn’t make the cut. Was she too busy to join the fight? Every day seems to bring a new PR mishap for Sony, from their wobbly stance on physical game sales to their backtrack on single-player titles coming to PC. Now, they’re doubling down on AI, believing it’s the key to unlocking more creativity for studios. We can only hope they figure this out soon!
