Spider-Man and The Odyssey Break Box Office Records

Another thrilling weekend at the box office has unfolded, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day zooms closer to the $2 (approx. Rs 560) billion mark, while The Odyssey has claimed the title of the highest-grossing film from director Christopher Nolan.

Starting with the web-slinger, the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not only swung into the spotlight but has also achieved the third-best second weekend in domestic box office history, raking in an estimated $145 (approx. Rs 40,310) million. With its domestic earnings now totaling $655 (approx. Rs 182,090) million and international numbers hitting $1.01 (approx. Rs 280) billion, the new Spider-Man flick stands at a staggering $1.67 (approx. Rs 460) billion globally and it’s just getting warmed up.

With several weekends still ahead, reaching that elusive $2 (approx. Rs 560) billion seems like a sure bet for this superhero adventure. If it crosses that threshold, it will surpass the earnings of its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home. The real question now is how far it can go beyond that. If it continues its strong performance, it could soon be in the same league as iconic titles like Avatar and Avengers: Endgame. And who knows, the $3 (approx. Rs 830) billion mark might not be too far-fetched!

Meanwhile, The Odyssey is also making waves. This nearly three-hour cinematic adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem drew massive attention, pulling in a remarkable $264 (approx. In its second weekend, the film only dropped by 38%, following a mere 19% drop in its opening weekend, indicating that its success is far from over.

Reviews for both blockbuster films have started rolling in. The Odyssey received a score of 8/10, with critics noting that while it might not be flawless, it definitely delivers an engaging cinematic experience. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, on the other hand, earned a solid 7/10, praised for its focus on the essential elements of the Spider-Man lore: tackling personal struggles, soaring through New York City, and, of course, looking awesome while doing it.

The star-studded cast of The Odyssey features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, with Tom Holland and Zendaya also in key roles. Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal are also part of the cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which includes other familiar faces like Sadie Sink and Jacob Batalon.

In addition to these two heavyweights, this weekend also saw the release of One Night Only and Super Troopers 3. The former managed to pull in around $5.7 (approx. Rs 1,580) million domestically, while the latter brought in $4 (approx. Rs 1,110) million, placing them in third and fourth at the box office, respectively.
