Steam Machine Reservations Hit eBay Before Launch – Prices Skyrocket!

The Steam Machine hasn’t even hit the shelves yet, but that hasn’t stopped some eager gamers from making a quick buck. Valve has started sending out some rather confusing emails regarding the status of preorders, leaving many to wonder if they’re in the “queue” or sitting on the “waitlist.” Regardless, the online hustle has begun, and these reservations are popping up on eBay!

If you take a stroll through eBay—let’s just call it GameBay for fun since GameStop seems keen on owning the whole online selling scene—you’ll find multiple listings for Valve’s highly-anticipated living room PC. The Steam Machine is already priced between $1,050 (approx. Rs 291,900) and $1,430 (approx. Rs 397,540), but sellers are flipping these reservations at prices that are nearly double the retail value!

The listings we’ve spotted on eBay are all for “confirmed reservations,” meaning the sellers have received one of those puzzling emails from Valve that secures their spot in the “queue”—definitely a big deal compared to being on the “waitlist.” Some sellers are even offering to ship this not-so-console console to you as soon as they get their hands on it, which could be as soon as early July. But be prepared to pay up, with prices starting at around $1,363.70 (approx. Rs 379,110) (that one’s already gone) and shooting up to a jaw-dropping $3,200 (approx. Rs 889,600)!

This trend isn’t surprising at all; it’s pretty common to see this kind of markup for in-demand hardware. We’ve seen it with everything from the PlayStation 5 to the Xbox Series X, and even the Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam Deck. However, it’s intriguing to see the hype surrounding the Steam Machine, with one seller even dubbing it “a piece of gaming history.” Early impressions of Valve’s upcoming device have described it as a compact yet powerful gaming machine, and it seems the buzz is only helping those sellers crank up the prices. One listing we saw was going for an eye-watering $2,600 (approx. Rs 722,800)!

Note: PKR figures are approximate, based on a rate of Rs 278.00 per USD. Exchange rates fluctuate — please check the latest dollar rate for exact pricing.
