In Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, Maslany plays Paula, a newly divorced mother who gets tangled in a web of blackmail, murder, and youth soccer after she suspects she’s witnessed a crime during a seemingly innocent online interaction with a camboy. The sneak peek reveals Paula in a nail-biting situation, literally, as she finds herself grabbing a nail gun in a moment of panic. “She’s not a fighter at all,” Maslany explained, adding that Paula’s desperate attempts to defend herself often involve makeshift weapons, even using a tuna can at one point!
Maslany also highlighted that the show draws inspiration from the unique style of the Coen Brothers, particularly films like Fargo, which blend dark themes with strange, surreal comedy. She appreciates how her show occupies a similar uneasy balance, stating, “Tonally, this show kind of lives in a hard to pin down place.”
