The Return of The Blair Witch: Original Stars and Crew Reunite for a New Chapter
Get ready, horror fans! The iconic Blair Witch Project is making a comeback, and this time, it’s bringing back some familiar faces from the original film. After years of Hollywood trying to recreate that spine-chilling found-footage magic, it seems like Lionsgate is ready to take another swing at this horror classic.
For those who don’t know, the original Blair Witch Project set the bar high for low-budget horror with its groundbreaking style, leaving a mark that many have tried to imitate over the years. Despite several sequels and new franchises like Paranormal Activity popping up, none have quite captured the essence of the original.
Lionsgate has just announced that the film will feature the original directors, Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, along with producer Gregg Hale, who will be taking on the roles of executive producers for the reboot. Plus, fans will be thrilled to know that original cast members Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams are also back, lending their experience to this fresh project.
The direction of this new iteration will be handled by Dylan Clark, who’s gained attention for his viral horror shorts on YouTube. The script is penned by Chris Thomas Devlin, known for his work on Cobwebs and the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre on Netflix. It’s worth noting though, that the lead star from the first film, Rei Hance (formerly Heather Donahue), isn’t involved this time around, having stepped away from acting nearly two decades ago.
Back in the day, the original cast was paid a mere $1,000 for an intense eight-day shoot, which turned into a box office sensation raking in hundreds of millions. However, instead of a big payday, they received fruit baskets as a thank you! Understandably, the cast expressed their frustrations about their treatment post-release and had shared their disappointment about not being part of this new project when it was first announced.
Lionsgate has seemingly acknowledged these past grievances, which likely played a role in bringing Leonard and Williams on board for this reboot. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date, and plot details are being kept tightly under wraps. But one thing’s for sure – fans are buzzing with anticipation for what this new take on The Blair Witch Project will bring!
