Twitch CEO Says GTA 6 Multiplayer Is Planned for 2027

GTA 6’s multiplayer mode could arrive in 2027, according to comments from Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.

Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Clancy discussed the enormous impact Rockstar Games’ next Grand Theft Auto is expected to have on Twitch. He said Twitch has been talking with Rockstar about its plans and expects GTA 6 to generate a massive surge in streaming activity when it launches.

However, according to Clancy, the biggest increase could actually come the following year when Rockstar launches the game’s multiplayer component.

“You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”

His comments suggest that Rockstar is planning to launch GTA 6 multiplayer separately in 2027, rather than having the full online experience available alongside the base game.

That would not be completely surprising. GTA 5 originally launched on September 17, 2013, while GTA Online followed roughly two weeks later on October 1. With GTA 6, however, the gap could potentially be much larger.

Rockstar itself has not officially announced a 2027 release date for GTA 6 multiplayer, so Clancy’s comments should not be treated as a formal confirmation. Still, the fact that the Twitch CEO says the company has been discussing Rockstar’s plans makes the statement particularly interesting.

The successor to GTA Online could also be an enormous event for Twitch. GTA 5 remained one of the platform’s biggest games for years, helped considerably by GTA Online and the explosion of GTA RP servers and communities.

If GTA 6 follows a similar path, its single-player launch could dominate gaming in its first year, only for the multiplayer release to create another huge wave of interest in 2027.

Considering how massive GTA Online became, its successor could potentially take over the internet all over again the following year.
