Unveiling the Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Set in Magic: The Gathering

Magic: The Gathering fans, get ready for an exciting crossover! The highly anticipated Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set is about to launch, packed with 51 distinct theme packs that will let you mix and match for some thrilling gameplay. We’re diving into all the details, including a first look at the vibrant themes and the whopping 180+ new cards that are making their debut, along with over 60 reprints exclusive to this release.

Jumpstart has always been a fantastic way for newcomers to explore the Magic universe. You just shuffle two themed packs together to create a ready-to-go 40-card deck, perfect for battling it out with a friend using the same method. The fun part? You never know what themes you’ll pull, which means you could end up combining a pack featuring the Fantastic Four with one that includes the notorious Dr. Doom, or perhaps the Agents of Shield with the Young Avengers!

This Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set boasts a total of 51 themes, each showcasing a unique blend of fresh cards, reprints from past sets, and, of course, lands to cast your spells. While there’s no randomness within a theme’s card list this time, some themes are definitely rarer than others. For instance, the Fantastic Four pack holds the highest Mythic rarity, while the Young Avengers pack sits at Common.

If you’re curious about what each theme brings to the table, we’ve got a gallery lined up that highlights all 51 themes and provides a sneak peek into their gameplay mechanics.

Each theme pack will include a handful of brand new cards, generally ranging from three to seven unique additions exclusive to the Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart. These cards will carry the MSC set code, meaning they won’t be valid in Magic’s Standard format but can be played in more casual formats like Commander. But hey, if you’re just rolling with these cards in Jumpstart, their legality isn’t a concern!

Additionally, there are 62 reprints from previous sets making their way into this Jumpstart set, also marked with the MSC code. Expect to see familiar favorites getting a fresh coat of art, like Lightning Bolt depicted through Thor’s powers, alongside some straight reprints from last year’s Spider-Man set. A couple of surprises await, too, such as the infamous combo card Doomsday, designed to help set up a win using the new “Doctor Doom, Unrivaled” featured in the DOOM theme pack.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s more in each theme pack than just what we’ve highlighted. You’ll also find new cards from the Marvel Super Heroes Beginner Box, reprints from the Welcome Decks, and cards from the main set lurking around, creating a maze of options to explore!

The Marvel Super Heroes release is just around the corner, with tabletop prerelease events kicking off on June 19, followed by digital availability on MTG Arena on June 23, and finally, the full paper release hitting shelves on June 26. Stay tuned for more updates, including a closer look at the four Commander decks if that’s more your style!
