Windrose Sets Sail: 500,000 Players Join the Pirate Adventure in Just 48 Hours!

In a world overflowing with ninja-themed games, it’s a breath of fresh sea air to see pirates finally getting their time to shine. The new survival title, Windrose, is making waves after selling an impressive 500,000 copies within just two days of launch, as shared by the game’s publisher, Pocketpair. And guess what? The Steam community isn’t holding back in their praise, with the game currently boasting an 87% ‘Mostly Positive’ rating and nearly 100,000 players jumping aboard in the first 24 hours!

This phenomenal start can be partly credited to the demo that was released during the latest Steam Next Fest, which was a massive hit. It skyrocketed to the top of the charts and added around 1.5 million wishlists—talk about making an entrance! Our very own Chris Livingston spent a solid dozen hours sailing through the demo and early access version. He found the ship-to-ship battles to be a thrilling experience, reminiscent of the beloved Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. Plus, he assures us there’s no shortage of activities to keep players engaged, all at a reasonable price of $30.

Of course, who can forget about the sea shanties? They’re a must-have for any true pirate experience, and Windrose delivers! Over on social media, the game’s developers expressed their gratitude, saying, “Over 500,000 pirates have set sail for the Caribbean in just 48 hours! Thank you for the incredible support for Windrose. We wish you fair winds and following seas on your legendary journey!” Sounds like a party on the high seas!

However, not every pirate is fully convinced. Wes Fenlon spent four hours playing and felt that Windrose was missing some of the chaotic antics that define a pirate’s life—something he thinks Sea of Thieves captures much better. Despite this, the general consensus from players seems to be that Windrose is shaping up to be something special. Reviews are calling it a “pure delight,” with others noting that it feels surprisingly complete for an early access title, especially when compared to other games in the same phase.

As for me, I’m itching to dive into this ocean adventure myself, but my gaming backlog is holding me hostage! Still, I have no doubt that the lure of the open sea will reel me in before long. Just hoping the developers at Kraken Express can sort out some of the connectivity hiccups to make the experience even smoother. Happy sailing, mates!
