Witcher 3 Director’s New Game, “The Blood of Dawnwalker,” Ready to Bite!
Get ready, Pakistani gamers! If you’re anything like us, the mention of The Witcher 3 instantly brings back memories of epic monster hunts, tough moral choices, and a protagonist who’s a gruff hero with a heart (sometimes!). So, imagine our excitement when we heard that the director behind that masterpiece, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, is cooking up something new – a sandbox vampire RPG called The Blood of Dawnwalker. And guess what? He’s totally okay with you comparing it to Geralt’s adventures!
Tomaszkiewicz, a name synonymous with some of the best RPGs out there – from being a story designer on the original Witcher to leading quests on The Witcher 3 and even heading production on Cyberpunk 2077 – founded his own studio, Rebel Wolves, in 2022. Their mission? To craft “story-driven, open world games with some twists.” And The Blood of Dawnwalker is their first big bite into that vision.
The game plunges players into a grim 14th-century Europe, ravaged by war and plague. It’s a muddy, dark setting that certainly feels like a place Geralt would be trudging through. You’ll step into the boots of Coen, a half-vampire protagonist who, much like our beloved White Wolf, is “almost human but actually something more” – a monster we need to fight even darker villains.
When asked about the inevitable comparisons to The Witcher 3, Tomaszkiewicz was incredibly chill about it. “Really comfortable,” he said, adding, “I feel really confident about our game.” That’s the kind of self-assurance we love to hear!
But while he embraces the high praise implied by such comparisons, Rebel Wolves isn’t just trying to clone their past success. Tomaszkiewicz is keen on pushing boundaries. He shared that simply repeating old formulas wouldn’t feel like “evolving, or developing ourselves” as artists. This commitment to innovation is where those “twists” come in.
For The Blood of Dawnwalker, these twists include a truly impactful day/night cycle. Coen, our half-vampire hero, won’t have access to his full suite of supernatural powers during the day. Imagine the strategic possibilities! Plus, there’s a genuine element of time pressure. Unlike some games where a ticking clock just lets you roam endlessly, Dawnwalker will expect you to manage your time and sidequests wisely. You won’t be able to experience absolutely everything in a single playthrough, encouraging replayability and tough choices – a refreshing change for open-world RPGs.
Tomaszkiewicz also has a clear vision for Rebel Wolves itself. With a team of 160, he doesn’t want the studio to swell into a massive corporation. His dream is for The Blood of Dawnwalker to be successful enough to fund two more games of similar scale, all while maintaining their current size and collaborative spirit. “I’m afraid that if we grow more, we’ll lose this communication and process we have right now,” he explained. It’s a testament to focusing on quality over sheer quantity.
So, get ready to sharpen your fangs and prepare for a dark, immersive adventure. The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to launch this year, and with the brains behind The Witcher 3 at the helm, we’re definitely keeping our eyes peeled for this one. It sounds like a fresh take on the classic RPG formula, ready to sink its teeth into our gaming schedules!
