World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Is Already Being Overwhelmed by Players
The World of Warcraft: Forever beta appears to be attracting far more players than Blizzard was prepared for, with the huge influx already putting pressure on some of the game’s services.
According to Blizzard, the response to the beta has been “insane,” with so many players attempting to jump in that parts of the infrastructure are struggling to keep up.
Senior producer Tom Ellis joked that the level of demand was “a bit excessive for a beta” as the development team works behind the scenes to increase capacity.
The good news is that Blizzard is already scaling things up. The Warcraft team says it is increasing server capacity to accommodate the unexpected demand and expects everyone to be able to get into the beta soon.
Server problems and queues are hardly unfamiliar territory for major online game launches, but experiencing this level of demand during a beta suggests there is considerable interest in seeing what World of Warcraft: Forever has to offer.
For now, players struggling to get in may simply have to be patient while Blizzard adds more capacity. If the beta response is any indication, the team could have an even bigger infrastructure challenge waiting when the game opens its doors to everyone.
