Xenosaga: Pied Piper Sets Sail for PC, But Don’t Get Your Hopes Up Just Yet!

Hold on to your controllers, folks! The beloved Xenosaga series, part of the larger Xeno universe that also includes the popular Xenoblade Chronicles titles, is making a somewhat surprising return. For those who might not be in the know, the Xenosaga trilogy made its mark on the PlayStation 2, and a couple of its entries even found their way to the Nintendo DS. However, not many are familiar with the elusive Xenosaga: Pied Piper.

This game originally dropped in 2004, but here’s the catch: it was exclusive to Vodafone mobile phones back in the day, long before smartphones took over our lives, and it never hit any international markets. So, what’s coming to PC? You guessed it—Xenosaga: Pied Piper is set to launch on Steam sometime in the future!

The port comes courtesy of the same publisher behind the recent Armored Core flip phone adaptation. But don’t get too excited—this isn’t your typical polished remaster. Similar to the Armored Core port, Pied Piper arrives without any modern enhancements or even an English translation, which could be a bit of a hurdle for those not fluent in Japanese.

Despite the language barrier, the art style of Pied Piper looks impressive as it scales up for PC. Unlike the Armored Core port, which left a lot to be desired, Pied Piper has sparked at least a flicker of interest. It’s great to see efforts being made to preserve these classic gems of gaming history, even if they come with their quirks. Plus, it might just be the only title in the Xenosaga realm we see on PC for a while, given that Nintendo now controls the studio.

While it’s hard not to wonder why Namco Bandai hasn’t considered bringing the other Xenosaga games back to life for modern platforms, it’s still exciting for fans to see even a piece of this legacy make its way back. Just remember, it’s a retro mobile game at heart, so temper those expectations!
