Assassin’s Creed Hexe Faces Leadership Shake-Up Once Again

Big news from the world of Assassin’s Creed! It seems that the upcoming title, Hexe, is facing some significant turbulence as game director Benoit Richer has decided to step away from the project. This marks the second high-profile exit in just a couple of months, following the departure of creative director Clint Hocking back in February.

Benoit shared his career move on LinkedIn, and he’s not leaving empty-handed—he’s a co-founder of a new studio called Servo Games, teaming up with three fellow ex-Ubisoft developers: Luc Tremblay, Danny Marcoux, and Alex Droun. It’s clear that Richer is moving on to new adventures, but it raises questions about what’s going on with Hexe’s development.

When Clint Hocking left, Ubisoft quickly brought in Jean Guesden, the director of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, to fill the creative void. However, as of now, there’s been no announcement regarding who will take over Richer’s position. Such frequent changes in the leadership team aren’t usually signs of smooth sailing. There’s definitely some concern regarding the direction of Hexe.

As for what Hexe is all about, the game is still shrouded in mystery. With a title that evokes witchy vibes and a creepy twist on the classic Assassin’s logo from its reveal trailer, fans are eager to see what Ubisoft has in store. The developers have hinted that this installment will deviate from the open-world, action-RPG style that has characterized the series since 2017’s Origins. What that means exactly remains to be seen.

In the meantime, we did get some exciting news recently with the unveiling of Black Flag Resynced, a long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed 4, set to drop on July 9. And yes, it will still have the bloody action that fans love!

It’s worth mentioning that last year marked a significant shake-up for the franchise, with former overall boss Marc-Alexis Côté also leaving Ubisoft under less than favorable circumstances. He has even filed a lawsuit against the company, claiming he was forced to resign due to hostile working conditions, seeking a hefty sum in damages.

As we continue to watch the developments unfold, one can only hope that Hexe finds its footing and delivers the magic fans have come to expect from the Assassin’s Creed series.
