Bungie Denies Rumor That Destiny and Marathon Are Being Merged Into One Franchise

Bungie has shut down a rumor claiming that Destiny and Marathon could eventually be merged into a single connected franchise.

The rumor suggested that Bungie was considering linking the two universes together, potentially turning Marathon into part of Destiny’s larger history. However, Marathon creative director Julia Nardin has directly denied the claim.

Nardin is in a particularly good position to address the rumor, having worked on both franchises.

“As someone who’s worked on both Destiny and Marathon, I can confirm that the ‘leak’ about us merging the two IPs is fake.”

While there may be similarities between the games, Nardin explained that this comes from them sharing Bungie’s creative DNA, rather than existing within the same fictional universe.

She added that Destiny and Marathon remain “their own independent entities.”

Where Did the Rumor Come From?

The speculation originated from an alleged insider post claiming Bungie was exploring ways to combine the two franchises.

According to the supposed leak, Marathon would represent the beginning of humanity’s Golden Age, effectively turning its story into an early chapter of the Destiny universe. This could then have allowed Marathon characters, events, and lore to influence future Destiny stories.
