God of War Laufey Star Unfazed: Deborah Ann Woll Shrugs Off Fan Backlash!
Hey PakGamers! You know how it is – whenever a beloved franchise takes a new direction, the internet inevitably erupts into a mix of excitement and, well, a whole lot of noise. The recent reveal of God of War Laufey was no exception, especially with the spotlight shifting to a female protagonist instead of our legendary sad dad, Kratos.
Naturally, this decision sparked quite a debate online, with a significant portion of the negative reactions seemingly aimed at Laufey’s actor, Deborah Ann Woll. For those who might not know, Deborah also brought Laufey to life in the 2018 God of War reboot and is well-known for her role as Karen Page in Marvel’s Daredevil series. But here’s the kicker: she’s absolutely not letting the online trolls get to her.
During a recent event at Florida Supercon, when asked about the backlash, Deborah Ann Woll made it clear she’s taking it all in stride. “Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more affected by it,” she admitted, “but one, I’m not on social media, so that helps, and two, I don’t know, I feel totally unbothered.” Her confidence in the project shines through as she added, “Because I just know it’s great. It’s okay if it’s not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad.”
While some of us might have initially been surprised by Santa Monica Studio’s bold move to shift focus from Kratos, the gameplay and reveal trailers actually show a game that feels very much in line with the spirit of God of War. The idea of navigating the afterlife with a unique companion sounds pretty epic, and some might even argue that Laufey is bringing the series back to its roots with a more traditional combat system, reminiscent of the earlier titles.
Frankly, after the epic conclusion of God of War: Ragnarök, it felt like the Norse saga had run its course. Injecting some new blood into the franchise seems like a smart way to keep things fresh and exciting. Plus, Santa Monica Studio has already hinted that Kratos isn’t out of the picture for good and will return in future games. So, what’s the fuss really about? It’s pretty clear that some of the anger has less to do with the game’s quality and more to do with, well, other reasons.
Now, my personal biggest concern (and probably many of yours!) isn’t about the protagonist, but whether God of War Laufey will grace our PC screens. Both the 2018 God of War and Ragnarök eventually made their way to PC, proving that launching PlayStation exclusives on platforms like Steam is a goldmine. However, Sony recently indicated a shift, suggesting a renewed focus on PlayStation exclusivity. This could mean Laufey might be a PS5 (or even PS6) exclusive for the foreseeable future.
But let’s be real – the PC gaming market is massive, and developing games as ambitious and visually stunning as God of War Laufey costs a fortune. To achieve the widest possible success and recoup those development costs, a broad release is almost essential. So, while Sony might be talking about stricter exclusivity now, I wouldn’t be surprised if this decision doesn’t last too long. Fingers crossed we get to experience Laufey’s journey on PC eventually!
