Oblivion Remastered: Still Stuck in Time with Old Issues
The gaming community is buzzing about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which, despite being released to much fanfare, seems to be trapped in a time warp of technical problems. A year after launch, it appears the game is still grappling with the same glitches that players encountered from the get-go.
In a recent update, tech gurus at Digital Foundry revisited the game to assess its performance, and the results are not pretty. With no patches rolled out for the PC version since July 2025, many players are left feeling frustrated as performance issues continue to plague their adventures in Tamriel.
Digital Foundry pointed out that players are still facing significant performance hiccups, including troublesome frame rates and awkward stutters while exploring the expansive open world. The longer you play, the worse it seems to get, hinting at a possible memory leak that’s been a real pain since launch.
“The game hasn’t seen any meaningful updates since its 1.2 patch shortly after its release,” Digital Foundry noted. Given that it hit the shelves in late April, the lack of ongoing support feels a bit disappointing. Players have reported everything from annoying lags to full-on crashes, putting a damper on what should be an epic RPG experience.
Critics are not holding back either, with some players labeling the game as “abandonware” due to the glaring bugs still present. One disgruntled player lamented, “The update ruined the performance for me. Even the main menu lags now!” It seems the initial excitement has been overshadowed by ongoing technical issues.
However, it’s worth noting that Oblivion Remastered has attracted a whopping 9 million players, which speaks volumes about its enduring popularity. Bethesda even brought in Virtuos to help remake this beloved title using Unreal Engine 5, and according to Todd Howard, Bethesda’s development chief, they are “really pleased” with the game’s performance in terms of player numbers.
Still, with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered slated for a 2026 release, many are hoping that this might finally prompt some much-needed updates across all platforms. Until then, the community will have to deal with the quirks and frustrations that come with revisiting this classic RPG.
