Dark Souls 2’s Frozen Eleum Loyce Has Been Ported Into Elden Ring Nightreign

Modders are giving Elden Ring Nightreign a pretty wild new twist by bringing back one of the most memorable locations from Dark Souls 2.

A modder has managed to port Frozen Eleum Loyce, the frozen kingdom introduced in Dark Souls 2’s Crown of the Ivory King DLC, into Nightreign as a playable map.

And yes, that apparently includes the infamous Frigid Outskirts.

Rather than simply dropping the old Dark Souls 2 map into the game, the area has been adapted around Nightreign’s gameplay systems. The map works with the game’s shrinking playable area and night events, allowing Frozen Eleum Loyce to function within Nightreign’s faster, run-based structure.

That creates an interesting combination: a location originally designed around Dark Souls 2’s slower exploration and combat is being repurposed for Nightreign’s much more frantic gameplay loop.

The Frigid Outskirts Return

For Dark Souls 2 veterans, the inclusion of the Frigid Outskirts might be the most interesting — or terrifying — part of the project.

The optional snowy area became notorious among players because of its limited visibility, long trek toward the bosses and aggressive enemies appearing through the blizzard.

Now, years later, players can potentially experience that frozen nightmare again under an entirely different set of gameplay rules.

Modders Keep Expanding Nightreign

Projects like this also demonstrate how much room Nightreign has for community-created content.

Even if the game eventually receives fewer official updates, modders can continue experimenting with new maps, encounters and mechanics while bringing locations from older FromSoftware games into its structure.

Frozen Eleum Loyce already feels surprisingly appropriate for Nightreign thanks to its harsh environment and dangerous encounters.

The fact that someone managed to bring the Frigid Outskirts along for the ride makes the whole thing considerably more chaotic.

For anyone who thought they had finally escaped that frozen wasteland after Dark Souls 2, apparently the Frigid Outskirts weren’t finished with them yet.
